This is going to be my hatchery for RCS and Yellow Shrimp. Does anyone have any ideas of what types of plants I should add, I want to make this one heavily planted as well.

Nice site, wish I lived around az, I don't know many places that do things like that, and for sure not in Maryland. I have a couple little tree branches that I am going to put in the tank, but not sure what else. Another good plant buying site is www.aquairumplants.com Bought from them before and they are great.

Get some java moss or hornwort. If you can't find it locally, you can buy it from Aquabid.

John, I have Java moss in there. I just got this tank a week ago. Went to aquariumplants.com and bought a 36 plant assortment pack and on ebay I just bought star moss, pellia, Fissiden Spla, and Plagiomnium Trichomanes. Lets see what that does.

The shrimp need places to hide, and those plants will help, although all of them may not thrive in your aquarium.

Yeah, I saw a blog about a ugf filter and how they really arent that great for growing plants, But I am going to change my bigger tank around and use most of the mosses for that tank. This hatchery tank doesnt have anything else except for shrimp. Thats my goal, I am going to try and make some money.

Good luck with the shrimp raising venture. As for an uggiff, we under gravel filter users are a minority.

Just added a ton of plants to both of my tanks. Will have pictures up soon.

I have thought about setting up a 5g tank for raising RCS for my aquariums and for some friends and family, and perhaps trading them with others for new fish. Plus, I really like them, and they are impossible to find anywhere around where I live. As for the ugf; why would they not be good for plants? Would the ugf be a problem for the shrimp fry?

Under gravel filters should be safe for shrimp. If they're producing too much turbulence, you can add a valve to bleed off any extra pressure. Uggiffs are old technology and not very sophisticated, and they need at least two inches of gravel. They nurture the good cooties. You can buy filters to make aquarium water virtually sterile, but not much lives in sterile water. Idea
