Tonight my Lipstick tang and Yellow scopaz tang ate seaweed directly from my hand (I.e. - I held a small piece just below the water line) - I've also noticed that when I look into the tank and walk from one end to the other (6ft)... They follow me.... For me, it's just brilliant and makes me really happy that I've got into this most excellent hobby (as well as making my living room look great)

Just wanted to share that with yer!!!

My Blonde Naso rips the stuff out of my hand before I have a chance to clip it in place...

Normally, I have to perform a bait and switch manuever dangling a piece of Nori on one side of the tank, while I clip the main bunch on the other side... yesterday, Blondy caught on to the gig... while I was lureing the tangs to one side of the tank with the nori piece, Blondy reached up and out of the water and grabbed the full sheet of nori from my hand before I could clip it in place....

It is always fun to have a fish that is personable....

I recently bought the most beautiful 7' purple tang. I had been feeding it LFS-bought green seaweed, but I read online that you can also feed Nori (as you mention in your post). I compared the nutritional info on both seaweeds and noticed that Nori doesn't seem to be as nutritious as the 'main stuff.' Does anyone have extended experience with Nori.... is it really as good as the stuff you buy at the LFS? Or should it just be used here and there? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for sharing that. After many years of fish keeping I still find a joy when they interact with me directly. From nibbling, to wanting their backs scratched or tummies rubbed (My Batfish were good for that). They'd rub against you like a cat does. You can teach some of them some tricks also, my Clown trigger was a good participant for that. Anyway this is a reef group so I'll quit before I get scorched heh heh heh. I doubt anyone has taught their corals any tricks yet.(Insert huge grin here). Now that I think of it, I have hand fed inverts such as cleaner shrimps, crabs... hmmm.... They are friendly little guys too.

my purple tang does this. It will even seem to lay on its side on the sand bed for a gentle stroking. Some fish can be so cool, and others are such a PITA Rod Buehler
