OK... I have a question. But first some background info:

When someone asks how to reduce and/or eliminate algae from their tank, the canned answer always includes feeding less food, less often. I agree with this theory.

I plan to upgrade my existing tank/sump in the next few months. Currently I have a 94 gallon tank and 30 gallon refugium and 25 gallon sump. I'm looking at a 180 tank with the 90 as my sump/refugium. I plan to add 50 - 75 lbs live rock to the 100 lbs I already have.

Assuming I keep the same bio load with the same feeding schedule, will this help minimize the undesirable algae?

Yes this should be a very healthy tank. Don't skimp on the light for your refugium. I'm using a 250 Wt MH on my 120 gal tank with 3 squre foot. It works 10 times better than the dual fluro 25wt fixture I was running before.

Lighting for the sump will be the existing tank lighting... 4 x 140 Watt VHO bulbs

The tank will be 3 x 250 MH and 2 (or 4) VHO's.

I have had green hair algae in the past. Although greatly reduced, it is still present, primarily on the back glass. Seems to grow nicely over the coralline that's covers the back wall so nicely...
