OK everyone, here is my stand in its almost finished state. It is functional now as it is, but the stain needs to dry. I still may put a piece of plywood on top and I still need to install a shelf above the ten gallon. I am using the side braces to anchor some shelf holder things to set the shelf on. That way I can remove it when I need to do a water change. This is basically the same as John's stand from his post(that's where I got my instructions.) It was pretty easy to build even for a girl. Of course my wonderful husband helped me when I needed it too. Anyway, this is basically the same except for the placement of the side braces which are a little higher. I will post another picture when I get it set up with the twenty gallon on top.

Yeah it is pretty cheap. The wood was only ten dollars total and the glue and screws were another ten. It is a lot cheaper and a lot more fun than buying one from a pet store. Plus you can make it any way you want.

Here it is in a finished state with both tanks full of water and running. Actually, it isn't really finished yet since I still need to find something I can use as a shelf above the ten gallon. Right now it is just a big empty space and looks a little weird. Anyway, I am pleased with the results and am glad my favorite pair is no longer tucked away in a corner below the table.

Wow! That looks really good. As for the shelf, why not use a piece of pine shelving material? I think most 2by4s are made of pine or a similar wood, so you should be able to stain and finish the shelf to match the rest of the stand.

OOOOOPS! I almost forgot. If you buy a so called one inch by ten inch pine board, you actually get a 3/4 inch by 9 1/2 inch board or something close to that. In fact, plywood is not even what it used to be. Instead of selling 1/2 inch plywood, they now sale 15/32 plywood.

Thanks John . I had thought about using something like that, but I keep hoping to find something around the house I can recycle. The search will end soon I think.

Thanks Angela! Have you had a chance to start building for your fish room yet?

I haven't, but I'm collecting tanks to get ready! LOL!

I've actually super lucked out... not this weekend, but next I'm trading my 55 gallon wooden stand for a 29 and 3 10's! YAY!!!

Right now as it stands... I ABSOLUTELY NEED 2 more 20s or 1 20 and a 30... UGGG!

I'm so overstocked right now!

If I turn all the stand building stuff into a blog, I will include some of Megan's experiences. Her aquarium stand looks much better than mine.

Ha! Thanks John. It actually looks better in the picture than it is in real life. I believe yours had the opposite effect. Weird. Anyway, that sounds fine. I think it is pretty cool you want to use my experiences in a blog. No ifs about it; go for it.
