My 30g is not fully cycled and the water is quite cloudy..but it is a white sort of cloudiness could this be like an ammonia spike?

It could be but id do a water test as well. I have the same problem but it turned out to be nitrites and nitrates and not ammonia

Ammonia usually happens before nitrite, and some nitrogen compounds form tiny bubbles that can make the water appear cloudy. Filters also take a while to get out all of the small particles.
