title says it all I found a bottle of Clear ammonia with cleating agents listed on the list ingredients. When shaken no foam . No colors or perfume. Is this ok to do a fishless cycle.

Why mess with strong ammonia's when a serve of fish food creates the same conditions. fish food = 40 -50 % protein Proteins are a nitrogen based substance so there is your source of safe ammonia. N2

That would be the same as a cycle useing fish, he's asking about ammonia, for a fishless cycle. About a year ago the fishless cycle topic was brought up in this news group. I was telling someone that the first time I was showed how to do a fishless cycle was with flakefood, about an oz. per 10 gal. of water. To speed it up, you first put it in a blinder and when dumped into the tank, looked like muddy water. By the 3 day or so, you couldn't hardly get near the tank because of the smell. The point is, to use food, stinks and you have to use to much, so the cost is high. On top of that, it has to break down into ammonia. Then came the idea of useing urine, which didn't go over well when trying to tell someone to get a latter and not to fall into the tank with their blue jeaans down. That was some 33/34 years ago. The best, fastest, and way is useing _pure_8 ammonia...... Frank

I think he means chelating agent. I used ammonia with chelating agent (specifically Walmart's Clear Ammonia) and it worked fine.

I used one capful per ten gallons for the first two days only. In ten days I had a cycled tank. I now have happy fish with babies.

YMMV

Easy for you to say!

RDJ

From www.Britannica.com:

chelate

any of a class of coordination or complex compounds consisting of a central metal atom attached to a large molecule, called a ligand, in a cyclic or ring structure. An example of a chelate is the ethylenediamine-cadmium(II) complex: The ethylenediamine ligand has two points of attachment to the cadmium ion, thus forming a ring; it is known as a bidentate ligand. Ligands that can attach to the same metal ion at two or more points are known as polydentate ligands. All polydentate ligands are chelating agents.

Chelates are more stable than nonchelated compounds of comparable composition, and the more extensive the chelation
