Hi All,
I am new to this..recently bought a tank and had a pair of red eyed tetra and 3 pairs of angel fish. few days ago my 2nd tetra died.. (the 1st one died long back. as soon as i bought the tank)When the 2nd one died, i was out of town and so didnt clean the tank for 3 odd days, after that i did a 40% water change which i usually do once a fortnight. But i guess something went wrong since that day. Every day one of my angel fishes goes and sits at the bottom side of the tank. 3 days ago it was just one fish, today its 4 of the 6 fishes doing the same. I just cant understand whats happening. Can any please help me..
I feed them with dry blood worms, just bought a new pack of that .. could that be the problem??

welcome to our forum!!! you said that you didn't clean water for 3 odd days, you don't mention that what is the size of your tank?what is the filtering system.you should do 40% water change per week if you have a good biological or power filtering system.moreover i don't know about your tank size?you don't mention about your ph,nitrate, ammonia level..these informations are very important that...pls mention it..

Welcome to our forum. When you moved the aquarium, did you leave the fish in it or did you clean and refill it. If you cleaned the aquarium and gravel thoroughly, you probably killed all the good bacteria, which means ammonia and nitrite levels were high. Good bacteria digest those toxins and help keep the water healthy. Sudden changes in water parameters can also make the fish sick. Actually, it compromises their immune systems and makes them vulnerable to diseases and parasites. Fish with compromised immune systems sometimes develop symptoms only after a few weeks. It's a good idea to use the drip acclimation method when introducing fish into a new environment. If you have access to a test kit, make sure the ammonia and nitrite are at zero. Also make sure you are not feeding the fish too much. Uneaten fish food will foul the water, so be sure to feed them no more than they eat in a couple of minutes.

I hope some of these ideas helped. Please keep us updated.

i have a small tank of about 2.5 gallons. I doubt for the availability of the test kit, can you suggest me some measures that i can take currently to save my fishes from dying.
Last time i had done almost 90% water change as the dead fish was lying in the tank for more than a day.
Any medicines or preventive liquids that i can add to the tank to bring the fish back to normal?

You have way too many fish in a very small aquarium. Mature angelfish, for example, require at least ten gallons per fish. Tetras are fast swimmers and usually need more space than a 2.5 gallon aquarium can provide. The best thing you can do now is a 20 or 30 percent partial water change every day for a week or more. Your aquarium is probably full of ammonia and nitrite; the partial water changes will help eliminate those two toxins. Step two is to avoid over feeding. Give the fish no more than they eat in a couple of minutes. Right now, that will probably be zero, because sick fish don't have appetites.

A small aquarium like yours should have a filter, and it should be used to accommodate only a small number of small fish. It will also house a pair of small gouramis or paradise fish or a male Betta. All of those fish can breathe air, but they also need to use their gills and need clean water.

If you have time, you may want to read our blog about the nitrogen cycle. Most aquarium shops do not tell you about it, because they assume you already know. When i started in the hobby during the 1950s, even the aquarium magazines did not mention the nitrogen cycle, although it's one of the most important things to know when setting up a new aquarium. Good luck, and please keep us posted.

The fish are stressed, so they don't have much of an appetite. They can go for several days without eating. The partial water changes are their best chance for survival.

I'm sorry for your angels. Well with mistakes come experience. Next time, if you are going to keep angels, get at least ten gallons of aquarium space for each angel and make sure you complete the nitrogen cycle because angels are known to be sensitive fish. Good luck for next time!

do it as fishycrackerz said.i rather would suggest that keeping angel is an expert's job.for angels or discus keep 10 gallons per angels.also provide proper feeding and hiding place..and what is the compatible fish you kept with angels?these are very important factors for a healthy angel.

ya for a discus or angel aquarium you must provide more hiding place and echinodorous sp or anubias sp plants for hiding and spwaning...
