Ok I just told you how I moved my two spawns into their grow out tank. This was from two pairs of DD black superveils. Now one momma does have a tiny bit of white in her lower front fin. Some of the babies from this batch are pure white so far. They have been living happily with their siblings. When I mixed the two spawns in the larger tank, the little white ones came under attack from the other spawn. That spawn had no white ones at all. So it was something that they had not seen before. I am guessing they considered them food. I now have those in a breeder net. I know that those should probably be culls, but I just could never do that. I am excited to see what they will look like in a few more weeks. They are much smaller than any of the black fry. So what I find so interesting, is the blacks that were raised with the whites were just fine and did not bother them at all. But black fry that had never seen whites went on the hunt. Interesting, you would not think at this young age, they would be able to notice a difference or even care. Well ok, I think I am done with my morning ramblings LOLOL

Interesting observations. I've noticed that size and color seem to be considerations when angelfish select a mate. A few observations don't make a trend, but the large, dark males in my aquariums seem to prefer small, light colored females. If you think about it, the differences probably make the gene pool more viable. It happens in many other species.
As for culls, so long as it's just a hobby why not give everyone a chance.

Culling.... ARG!!!
Culling is a sneaky business here.
Some are obvious culls, lack of fins, shortened gill plates... etc.
But Madison (my 8 year old daughter) is a troubador! She's the "SAVE THE CULLS" brigade... If you whisper the word cull, she'll run in from any room in the house. It's VERY frustrating, because at times it is something that needs done.
I use my culls as feeders for my bigger tank. And if they make it, hey, good for them! But Madison doesn't see it this way...
As for your situation... Putting diffent spawns together is tricky business. It's amazing how RADICALLY different the growth rates can be.
I know it means more tanks, but, each spawn needs it's own tank. My deal is that each spawn goes in a separate tank, and as they grow I separate them as well... Dimes, Nickels, and Quarters if they get that big before I sell them.
Every experience that I've put them together, one hatching has eaten the other. Even if they hatch on the same day.
Once they get bigger, it's not as big of a deal. But as small ones, it is.
Good Luck!
