Ok, im in my garage looking at my refugium and at all my pods jumping around having fun, etc. when I notice this 'potato bug' crawing in front of me and me thinks it looks like a giant pod. So, pick up the guy and put in in my main tank to see what my fish think. They go crazy and all fight over him and eat him up. Im sure this is not a natural food for the fish but is it good for them at all as an occasional treat? Any nutritional benfit or did I indulge my fish's junk food palate?
Just curious.

I am a natural food freak myself. I have fed my fish with everything I could find in the nature for a year or so. Land bugs like spiders, ants, snails, worms, beetles etc, freshwater bugs like dragonfly larvae, leeches, mosquito larvae etc, sea animals like fish, crabs, schrimps, anything I could find. I think its really giving to be out in the wild, studiyng the wonders of nature, and then see if my fish like them for dinner. Never had any problem with diseases. I think the fish needs a varied diet and if they eat it its good for them. Happy hunting!

Maybe it was an American potato bug and you have terrorist pods.

I tried feeding my f/o tank some bugs about 12 years ago. They didn't seem to like anything I offered them. I tried rolly-pollies (some people here call them potato bugs), slugs and miller moths. None of my fish would have any of it. Since then I've read on insecticide labels that it can be deadly to fish. Be careful you don't feed any contaminated bugs to your fish.
Good luck, Laura B.
