No kidding! Awesome fish! I've heard that these fish are wild jumpers! At a fish store near where I live they have 10 pound bags of gravel on the hood to keep the fish from jumping out.

Well, when I had him (I call him "slick") in the 92 gallon (before the parrots and other cichlids) i took the photo, now he's in the 150, so he's got 6 feet of running room. Smile My guy is not a big jumper...yet....but I have a thick glass canopy with clips to hold it down. I got him when he still had the egg sack, and I raised him on non-live food. He has never had a live fish to eat in his life. He lives with fish he could easily swallow (small silver dollars, barbs, etc.) and he eats frozen or freeze dried food. Hes nevr even gone after them, and he eats right from my hand, he even lets me pet him as he swims by..... hes a gentle giant. Bob

And one moer question, how any years did it take to get to 10" (calculating when will I need to change my aquarium... Very Happy )

He is carnivorus, likes meat, especially pinkies (just kidding), so he doesnt eat plants, but I have artificial plants in that tank. How many years did he take to get to 10"? thats funny.... he got to 10" in about 7 months. I bought him at 3". Figure 1" a month for the first 2 years.

I'm asking about the plants since Oscars, which are also carnivorus, rip out plants (never understood why they do it). Do you know if they can "co exists" with live plants?
  • LIFishGuy says
Yes, they can live fine with live plants...Arrowana are top dwelling fish, and stay near the surface. Oscars are cichilds, cichlids like to dig, thats why they are no good with live plants, unless you enjoy replanting daily, or have them growing from between rocks. They like to move gravel, so I tend to surround the planted area with rocks so they cant dig up the plants when i use live plants and cichlids together.
