I have 2 tiger barbs and 2 green tiger barbs. 3 of them seem to get along well but i had to separate 1 of the green barbs because as he (or two of the others, a green and a tiger) would start fights all the time. I have a ~25 gallon tank and also have three buenos aires tetras which are getting along with the barbs.

What should I do with the green barb that is causing or having troubles getting along? Should I get 2 more barbs to take some attention away from him or maybe hope they will shoal in different groups?

Thank you!

Probably their hornes are getting active. Each spawining pair needs a privete aquarium. Otherwise they will defend a certain aquarium space and be very aggresive to and interlopers.

OK, here is what I know about tiger barbs. Being in the same family, I imagine the green barbs are similar. Tiger barbs are schooling fish that need to be in large groups in order to establish a pecking order. If you have a small group(five or so) there tends to be one fish that causes a lot of problems for the others. There is not enough fish in this situation to disperse the aggression. I once made the mistake of buying some of these beautiful and interesting fish without doing my research and ended up taking them back the very next day. They do well with other fast moving fish, but not with slow moving fish such as angelfish and goldfish. It sounds like you are already doing this, but your green barb may need some friends of his own kind or a new home. A 29 gallon tank may be too small for so many barbs. I hope this helps you understand some. There is a lot of info out there on barbs since they are such popular fish. Feel free to browse the internet. You will find lots of useful info beyond anything I know.
