I have a 36 gallon bow front tank with plenty of drift wood hiding places as well as plastic plants. Temperature is set at 76 degrees and ph is 7.3. Substrate is more like small half inch stones than gravel. Are any of the following Cichlids OK to keep in a tank with 6 Tiger Barbs, 6 Gold Barbs, and 5 Nerite Snails? If none of these can you recommend any?
African Butterfly Cichlid
Agassiz's Dwarf Cichlid
Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid
Ram Dwarf Cichlid
I'm not a cichlid expert but my buddy kept tiger barbs with convict cichlids before, I don't know about the ones you have listed. However, I do know that tiger barbs are one of the most aggressive kinds of barbs out there.
I can't suggest which cichlid to get, but I advise against the Rams. I recently purchased some Odessa barbs which are meant to be less agressive than the tigers, and even they are causing a little friction with the rams. I asked about tiger barbs and advised to steer clear, too aggressive.
5 banded barbs are a good alternative to tiger barbs. they are less aggressive and do not seem to fin nip other fish.
they get along fine with my aggassiz dwarfs, bolivian ram and dwarf gourami with no problems.
they do play fight with themselves though it seems non aggressively.
