The malawis are African...hard water fish. Angels are from South America and are sof water fish. One or the other would not be happy, possibly both

Malawis are much more of an aggressive species of cichlid than angels, or most other cichlids. They (African reef lake cichlids) are much better kept in a species tank. Besides, the African reef lakes water, is hard, with a high pH. Angels do best in soft water with a much lower pH, and are not near as aggressive toward other cichlids..... I'm guessing you already have the two Malawi cichlids. They are very territorial fish, and each pair, would need their own little spot on the tanks floor..........Frank

-You're asking for trouble if you mix african lake cichlids with angels. And if you want to keep angels, you MUST have a pH that is below 7 or else their fins will split and rot + they will be weakened, prone to disease. Angels can't stand alkaline water. Malawis are very aggressive and territorial, require a tank that is at least 50 gallons and they need drastically different water conditions than angels. They are not fish for beginners at all. Since you're a beginner, I suggest you go for easy to keep fish first. Guppies, Platies and Catfish are a great start. They are relatively undemanding and hardy. Plus, they are easy to breed and that's a lot of fun.
