I dont really do gallons, i just prefer to do rough inches/feet. The one foot is around 1ft long, 10inches deep, and 10 inches height. Thanks again everyone for your suggestions. I will Keep you posted once they are in the bigger tank. thanks again!!!!!!!

I would try bare bottom. No gravel, now I do always take a small jar and put some established cootie gravel in there to help cycle the new tank. Also... if you use some of the water from the existing tank, that'll help too.

Just watch for those bad ammonia spikes.

Good Luck!

Most people like to have spawning tanks with no gravel on the bottom because cleaning is easier and fry don't get stuck in the gravel. As a contrarian who is about 20 years behind, I always use gravel and under gravel filtering. Other methods are probably better.

Now for that one foot aquarium. That thing is really, really small and is maybe why the fish didn't spawn. And in defense of gallons and litres, the scientific community and even us regular folks use standard weights and measures so we can communicate more accurately. Most books and magazines that have information about the aquarium hobby use liquid measure rather than strictly dimensions when talking about aquarium capacity. Water volume is a very important factor when it comes to aquarium setup and maintenance. Does anybody know how many firkins are in a gallon?

Keep the one footer... Even though the BN won't eat their young, you're going to need somewhere to put them. When they do start breeding, they'll go at it like crazy!

The main reason I like bare bottoms is the clean issue. You can see everything... Suck up any waste with a 1/4" ridgid airline attached to a flexible one... That's how I clean all my little fry tanks... that way you control the flow, and don't snag everything at once.

Keep us posted!
