Hello all!! I am new to this site but have an important question to ask all of you seasoned fish parents. I have an old reptile aquarium (50 gallons and labled "reptile" on the tags)and I was wondering if it would work to use aquarium selant to make it waterproof for sure and then use it for fish? I can't find anything online on this subject and don't know the actual difference between these two typs of aquariums ! Please help!!

It should work....It's basically up to you, If the glass seems too thin then no but when you rinse it out set it on two milk crates and fill it like 2/3 of the way if it holds then it should be fine.
If you don't run your own life, somebody else will.

Welcome to our forum!

I believe they do use a thinner glass in reptile tanks, because they are not intended to be filled completely with water. You may be able to get by filling it 1/4 or 1/3 with water and using it for turtles or newts. Even if it holds when it's completely full of water, it could suddenly burst when you don't expect it. You could always test it as lookoutworld suggested, but be sure it's supported evenly and watch out for busted glass.

If you want an aquarium on a budget, try shopping the yard sales.

too much thiner glass can cause to break the aquarium,so be sure that your tank is safe, you should use 8 mm glass for this aquarium.
