I found this guy freezing in a bucket in our garage this morning. He was barely breathing and his little legs were tucked along his side. I warmed him up inside the house before placing him on our brick wall in the sun outside. He is looking a bit better in this photo with his feet finally under him. He was able to walk out of the container I had him in onto the wall so I think he will be ok.

Do those guys sleep through most of the winter? Hundreds of them visit my garden every year, and they're good bug eaters.

I imagine they must because it can get so cold. There is no way they can warm up to get moving. We still have a few running around outside yet and I had a feeling this guy did not intend to hibernate through the winter in the bottom of a bucket. Hopefully, he found a nice crack in the wall somewhere where he can stay hidden. He was gone when I went back outside. Chances are that he may have been in hibernation mode when he was in the bucket just for survival's sake. I don't think he could have gotten out if he tried.
