One of a pair of percula clowns jumped out of the tank last night. I'm trying to figure out if there was a reason for it, or if it was just an unlikely jump. There are no other fish in there yet, besides the remaining clown, just a chocolate chip star, a small emerald crab and a clean up crew.

Tank size- 55 gal ammonia- 0 nitrites- 0 pH- 8.2 nitrates- 10 salinity - 1.0235

TIA,

I had a six line wrasse commit suicide. I think it was because of feeding. I was feeding the tank and left the lid open, then went to do some yardwork. My guess is the guy saw some food on the surface of the water and went after it a little too fast. I've seen him bump his head a bunch, but that was when the lid was down. So when I got back an hour later, there he lay right in front of the tank. I tried to put him back in and move water thru his gills with no luck :o(

I could understand if I had left the lid open. The thing is that he barely had any room to jump out of, this cranny about a half inch above the top of the tank- that makes me think he really wanted out.

Wrasses are known to jump. It is what they do.

Like was said check your parameters again, I don't know of Clowns having a tendency to carpet surf... But I guess he could of been spooked by something also.

And you have to take into account it is the holiday season, some deal with it better than others.....

When I set up my 29g years ago, I bought to True Perculas. After about 2 years, one jumped out of the tank, through a very narrow spot. Honestly, it had a 50/50 chance of falling right back into the tank, but chose the wrong way to wriggle.

It was very sad, as they were a beautiful pair. I still have the other one, that is now 7 years old. It has mated with a False Percula and lays eggs every 2 weeks.
