I moved my betta from a bowl into a 1 gallon aquarium. Lately he sits at the bottom for what seems like hours (I'll go back and forth and he's still in the same place) but other times he swims and doesn't stop. He hasn't been eating very good these past few days. I feed him once a day at the same time if I can. Also, sometimes his fins are clamped and other times they are spread. That's been like that since I got him in September '08 from Walmart.

He made tons of bubble nest in the bowl and always seemed excited to see me. Does he seem to be ok? Should I do anything different? Also, I clean his bowl once a week.

Thanks!

Clean it every other day? I have been told so many different things it is hard to know what is right to do.

Should I be worried about him being in the new aquarium? Could he just be adjusting? Also, is it ok to keep the light on all the time that is attached?

Thanks for your help!

I would not leave the light on at night. He look very healthy to me, and so pretty :]
i have the same betta display tank, but my betta died after 3.5 years(he was old) so now there is one lonely snail living in it out in my garage. . but it seems to me that your betta is fine. just make sure you are cleaning every other day in the small of a tank! at petsmart they have cute little tiny 2.5 and 5 gallon tanks there. they are so cute!! i was thinking about getting one for my baby guppies.

wow i'm a blabber. good luck.

Awww that's sad about yours! I love my betta. He really is a good fish... sounds kind of funny, but he does have a personality.

I will start cleaning his aquarium more and I really am thinking about resizing.

Harvey still hasn't eaten. I feed him pellets or freeze dried blood worms but with the pellets he'll try to eat one but spit it out or not even attempt. He hangs around at the bottom a lot but does still swim around. Should I try changing his food?

He used to be a pig, but ever since changing him into the aquarium he doesn't seem that way.

Maybe I am overreacting?

Any time you move a fish from one aquarium to another it can put them into a state of shock. One of the first signs of that is lack of appetite, and another is clamped fins. Was the new aquarium cycled? If not, some gravel or decorations or live plants from the old tank will help, provided they are still wet. The partial water changes will also help.

From your description, the Betta seems to be adjusting to his new environment, but he will need time. Right now, he is vulnerable to rapid changes in water parameters, so don't start adding chemicals to "fix" things. Be sure to clean up any food he doesn't eat in a couple of minutes, and be sure to keep us updated.

Welcome to the Forum!

Like John said... Please don't add chemical fixes... and like everyone said... Water Changes are golden!

Good Luck with your Betta!
