Hi! I just received an Eclipse 6 as an early Christmas gift and I was wondering what options I have for tank inhabitants, either freshwater or saltwater. I'm a newbie, but I'd like to do something slightly more interesting than housing a couple of goldfish
thanks!

Few Ideas for you for either freshwater and salt water for both fish and plants.

Sounds like a good tank for Skunk loaches. They don't get too big and they love hiding places and are a ball to watch.

If you can get pygmy cories they would be great in such a small tank. They only grow to be about 1" long. You could get a whole school of them (6). They like to root around in the substrate, they don't damage plants, and they might nibble at the algae.

I think you could keep kuhlis in an eclipse too, just don't get too many fish because of the bioload. They show way too many fish in the tank on the box for the Eclipse 6.

For a salt setup, you can have 1 damsel, and some hermit crabs, and 1 snail. There are dwarf plants that stay small.

Java moss, java fern, anubias, dwarf saggitaria, and bananna plants. They can fit the Eclipse 6 maybe with a 10 watt flourescent lite strip. It works great. Plants are really healthy. Stay small for these type tanks. You can try to start with a male Betta and two otto cinculus in it. ( the ottos won't eat your plants, but will keep them free from algae!)

Hope this helps.
