Hi all,

Well I went out and bought my first Fighter today. I bought a male, and I chose the best looking one they had. Only thing I'm not to sure about are his fins. They look some what jagged, and from images I have seen in books and on the net, they should be rounded and neat.

Here is a link to some images: http://studzworld.com/misc/images/fishy/betta01.jpg

Am I worrying over nothing? or is there something I can do so he gets better fins?

thanks in advanced

Beautiful color! Keep him in the cleanest water you can possibly provide and his fins will grow out just fine. Also, don't put lava rock, plastic plants, or anything that could tear his fins in the tank. Stick to live plants and smooth rock or gravel. I can't tell whether he might be a crown tail from the pic. If so, they will get even spiker, like this.

Well he was in a community tank, along with my other fish, but I caught him this morning flaring at the platies?? I have moved him to a 'breeding Trap/Display case' where he seems ok, but is still watching the other fish.

I have a rainbow shark in the tank, and they don't bother each other, but like the shakr could the betta just be trying to set is place in the hiarchy within the tank?

Thanks

Beautiful red - if it wasn't for the white head you would have a show quality fish. I agree with Elaine, looks like it may be a young crown tail, or have it (crown tail) in its genes. A lot of people out there use Melafix (by Aquarium Pharmacueticals) for just about everything - the only thing it's good for is fin damage - speeds up healing and cut down on scaring....... Frank

yeah the white head put me off a little, as I wanted a full red or blue one, but this was the best one they had.

And as it was an exchange on a clown loach I bought which came into my tank with whitespot, I can't complain. If I can succeed with this one, I may in the future try to ahold of a better look fish, the half moon fins look really nice, but I have not seen any in the FS's around here, and I've travel around 60 miles around my area looking at FS's.
