Filter help...I have a tetra wisper ex 20 power filter for a 20 gallon tank but it is way too loud : -( I hear it from the other room what are some good filters that aren't as noisy ( I don't mind the water fall sound..it's the loud rattling and humming I hate.. Thanks.
A few things, what exactly is making the noise?
Is it the pump causing the noise? In my experience, the Tetra Whispers are one of the loudest power filters in the market (ironically contrary to its name).
Is it water swirling in the media? Be sure the media is installed properly.
Is it the water flow too intense/too high? Be sure the water level is high enough. Some filters will cause an exceptionally loud "waterfall" sound if the water level in the tank is lower than the filter lip. Again, in my experience with Tetra whispers, they are loud and turbulent as heck. I returned mine after a few days.
For a 20 gallon tank, I am running a Marineland Penguin 100 Bio-wheel. The pump is very quiet and the water flow makes a very soothing sound (not noisy). It is working perfectly for me so far.
Try a few other models to see what suits you best!
It's a horrible rattling engine humming noise . Darn I bought the marine land one you have but returned it and got this do you know anything about the Aqueon quite flow filter?
Actually, I have an Aqueon Quiet Flow as a backup for my Marineland. I have not used it extensively so I can't really put in my two cents about it.
I generally appreciate Aqueon hardware, though. Sorry, that's all I got for that filter.
Perhaps someone else has input on that filter.
I also have one of these stupid filters. The pump hums AND there's this gargling noise coming from the filter itself. I hate the whole tank. My advise is to avoid tetra products like the Black Plague.
I am using the aqueon quiet flow 10 and guarantee it is quiet.just keep the water level right up to the lip of the filter output if you don't need too much of the waterfalls noise. Right up to it no over it.it keeps the water well oxygenated.
i have that one, did make a noise, i figured it out, take the tube out, and on the outside there's the motor part that twists out, take it out and twist it back in, make sure it's aligned with the tube part, i also noticed that the tube part doesn't sit in the slot up top all the way down, so u might wanna use force, but be careful not to break it, then fill the motor part with water, so it comes out from the main part and it should work.
Been there, made numerous calls to Tetra customer service.
there the mid part that suppose to sit snugly into the motor, it's rattling cauze it's not all the way in
