Seems as if my filter isnt working...

There are many large floating peices of old ... i dont even know what.

I cleaned out the part that sucks the water up, and nothing.

Then i took the whole filter apart and cleaned it ... still nothing

The filter cartridge is about 2 weeks old, but i can pick these up with my fingers if i needed, it should be able to filter those out.

i dont know whats going on =/

Maybe it has to do with the location of the filter uptake. In any case, you can use a fish net to skim the top of the aquarium. To make sure the floating matter is not impacting water chemistry, you could test for ammonia, etc.

When was the last time you changed the impeller? this could be the problem.

also did you use any chemicals to get rid of nitrates or such? normally the chemicals to get rid of nitrates just make particles clump together.

Chemical fixes should be a last resort, partial water changes the first.

PS: I had no idea that nitrogen removers were flocculants. Interesting.
