Can anyone suggest where i can find out about Filters. It is hard to find anything on the internet that is easy to understand and tell me what i should use.

I currently use aquaone canister filters on both my tanks. I also use a underground filter on my 200 litre tank and so far no problems, it stays pretty clean with not alot of effort.
In my 350 litre cichlid tank I have air stones around the sides and back. This seams to move the waste around untill it gets sucked up. This works pretty good. But The nirate levels was getting higher than i would like. Untill I started to use a bag of purigen-165.I can't find any information how it works but it removes the nirates. The problem is that the bag gets dirty fast and needs to be clean often. Normaly the tank and filter are still clean when the purigen is not.

Long story short I want to mod my canister, change what is in the filter or add another to keep the nitrate down. any suggestions would be helpful

cheers

Jackson, are you using purified water to fill the tank? U.S. drinking water contains 44 ppm nitrate and is often a big contributor to the build up in aquariums.

One of the on-line aquarium supply shops (Drsfostersmith.com) has quite a bit of information about canister filters. Before you invest in more supplies or equipment, you may want to try 20 or 25 percent partial water changes every week. Your Cichlids are fairly large; they produce quite a bit of waste material, and no filter is perfect.

Nothing beats water changes!! I don't think their is anything on the market that will reduce nitrates.
