If my fishes ever broke a Ebo-Jager heater would it electrocute them? If so would a GFCI outlet save their ass?

It is said that the fish are not much affected by a broken heater but it probably depends on the exact circumstances, if the heater was on or off, how big the fish is, and if you have a 'grounding' rod in the water. A grounding rod would cause a GFI to trip if the heater broke. It would also protect a person that made electrical contact with the water while having some other path to ground, like through their shoes.

I personally do not see the point to using a grounding rod, but a GFI makes a lot of sense.

A grounding rod would be made of copper. Wouldn't that effect the fish?

I had a broken heater in my 55G tank. was bad for three or four days. I noticed a slight shock when doing maintenance, reaching into the tank while resting my arm on a grounded fluorescent shop light fixture. Fish didn't seem to be affected at all.

My water is hard, DH 55, probably as conductive as any fresh water tank will be.

Ground rods sold for aquariums are made of titanium, not copper.
