Welcome to our forum.

Does the aquarium have an air stone or filter? It probably should. If you just set up the little aquarium, it has probably not cycled yet. The good news is that goldfish can tolerate ammonia and nitrite better than other aquarium fish. When you clean the aquarium, make sure to syphon out any uneaten food, but don't wash the rocks. The beneficial bacteria that help cycle the aquarium live in the gravel and decorations. If you do 20 percent water changes every day for a few days, the ammonia and nitrite should go to zero. Be sure to use a good water conditioner.
