HI,
I am hoping that someone out there can give me some advice on selling my baby angelfish. Now I live in a sort of remote area,, and only have 2 fish stores that are even remotely close to me, so I don't want to overprice my fish. They are DD black veil/superveils with the red eyes. They are about dime to nickle size. I can see now that some are going to have amazing fins. The parents are just beautiful. If it would help, I have taken a short video of the babies and the parents and I could post that. Here is the information about the parents that I received when I purchased the parents from Auqabid, Parent fish are male DD Black Veil and Black Lace Super Veil female(she is darker than a Black lace, closer to a DD Black in coloration with faint bars.) Now the question is, do you think 1.50 is too much to ask per fish when selling to a pet store? What do you think the price should be?
Thank you so much,
Sue

The big city market here in Phoenix has only a few independent aquarium shops that will buy fish. The rest get them from wholesalers. The independent shops go by the size of the fish and usually pay 1/4 of the retail value redeemable as store credits. Of course, yours would bring a higher price than most angelfish, but size will also increase the price. In a small market, you would be more likely to get what they are actually worth. Would you consider shipping them to Phoenix? It's starting to get pretty warm here, so shipping the fish may be risky and/or expensive.

Where are you located? I would love to have a couple of your baby fish. If you are not too far then maybe you could pm me and we could discus shipping and price. I have a hard time finding nice dd blacks. I would love to see a photo of yours. Also, you might try aquabid as a source to sell your babies. If they are really nice you could get more for them.

an idea - you can go to the store, see if they sell something similar and offer them your fish with a discount.

India is a fascinating country. I have friends from there but know nothing about the aquarium business in India. It would be interesting to read about your Indian aquarium experiences.

though i live in kolkata city of india but the main aquarium wholesales from mumbai,u must know the name of this city...in india the cost of fish is very cheap..now a days 3/4 inch discus costs $15 pair...and 2 inch costs $50.it costs varries depends on varieties of discus.now india govt. ban transporting fish from bankok or singapore hence the cost of fish rises.and now all fishes come from mumbai.here in kolkata on each sunday there's a place where all owners of aquarium pet shops come to sell fish.so we all wait for that sunday.there min 100 aquarium shop owners come to sell fih,it's a huge advatage for me spc. at that market we can buy fish @ lower rate!!! angels generally costs $1/2 but one have to buy at least 6..plants are obviously cheaper except anubias spc. overall i can say that in india in 10 % house of all we can see aquarium is there!!! .

Good Morning,
Thank you everyone for the information. I live in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the middle of nowhere LOL Right on Lake Superior. I have only shipped fish one time and that was a success. I am going to start reading about shipping and see if that would be an option. I am also going to try and get some good pics or video this morning. I did take some, but it didn't turn out that clear. Oh I wish they would just sit and pose for just a few seconds! I will also try and get some pics of the parents.

Sue,

I've had wonderful experiences with Aquabid. It is the BEST place I have found to sell fish and get close to what they're worth.

In my opinion, it will be difficult for you to sell to a local fish store, and make anything... Simply because most new or beginner aquarists don't realize the quality of what you're selling... You won't get paid the right amount...

On Aquabid, people KNOW what DD's are, and will pay for good quality specimens.

Please don't be worried too much about shipping. I fretted for a long time, but once you get over the initial cost of bags... (for fry I would ONLY recommend Kordon breather bags!), heat packs and insulating material... You'll be good to go!

If you have any shipping questions, please feel free to e-mail me. I couldn't tell you how many shipments I made last year!
