Hi,

I am from Malaysia, home to a number of fish you may find exotic but common over here. You may find my blog with an article I wrote about fish I keep and visits to a few commercial Arowana aquaculture farms interesting which is located near to where I stay.

I'm new here too, but I can still say welcome! This is a dumb question, but here goes. Is Malaysian driftwood really from Malaysia, is it abundant, and what kind of tree is it? If you get time, post some pictures.

Hi John,
I am not too familiar with the drift wood trade in Malaysia, however I do observe driftwood being sold in pet shops locally.
From my excursion in mountain streams, I do quite often come across drift woods.
As to what kind of trees they are from, I suppose it's what gets to fall into the river/streams.
I suspect, if they are available in abundance and are of uniform texture and color and looks more like roots in form, they would most probably be "man-made" and aged artificially and are not collected in the wilderness.
I will be out of town on business the next few days and will certainly try to take some pictures when I return.

Thanks for the interesting reply. Malaysian driftwood is a bit expensive over here, but I really like it for its looks and the fact that it tends to soften aquarium water and lower its pH. I'll look forward to seeing your photographs.

There are a couple of photographs taken of places I go to if I need to look for driftwood near my home but I do not know how to upload in this forum.

Hi kftung,

On the left side, you can see the "What Can I Do" section, just bellow the login.
Over there you'd find a link to upload pictures.

Or you can upload it straight here, if you press the reply rather then the quick reply.

PM me if you need any help.
