Their gestation period is about a month. With a standard Black Molly, the gravid spot near her vent is obscured. However, it becomes more distended as her delivery date nears.

Live bearing fish do not always deliver all of their fry at one time, and the younger females tend to drop fewer fry. If you do not have a way to protect the fry, they may be eaten before you see any of them.

A good way to provide the protection is a large raft of bushy, floating plants like hornwort. When viable fry are born, they instinctively swim to the water surface and take refuge in the floating plants. Some plants will contain microorganisms, which the fry will eat. A fast growing plant like hornwort also improves water quality by ingesting ammonia.

Live bearing fry that are born prematurely, as often happens when the female is stressed, have a visible yolk sac. Such fry are unable to swim and usually drown.

Male and females can be identified by the fin
on the bottom.. Fan like fins are female and
thin straight fins are male. Also if you are
going to bred, have two females to one male.
The mating can get intense and sometimes
kill the females. I prefer and an older female
to young, I have a veteran marble molly who
Is the best one I have. Good luck hope I helped.

That looks like a balloon belly molly which will perpetually have that rounded belly. It makes it more difficult to tell just how gravid the female is.

Anyway. Mollies give birth about once a month. There is no definitive way to tell exactly when she will give birth. My guess is that female has at 1-2 weeks to go.

No way to tell the age of fish. A molly should be nearly full grown at 1 year of age.

Yep, the male looks like what is called a dalmatian molly. Same species, just a different color and body type.

If the fry do not have a place to hide, like some floating plants, they will be eaten by the parents and other fish in the aquarium.

Sure will.
Like amneris said they need plenty of hiding places.
Live bearers have no parenting instincts.they will drop fry, turn around and immediately eat them if they feel like it.

you can def. seperate the fry from the parents if you have the tanks for it..

the fry can be housed together.
that "tank" is too small.. barebones i would say a 10 gallon. you need to make sure it is heated and filtered.
