how often do i need to add salt to my saltwater aquarium?

Marine aquariums are more complicated than freshwater ones. You need to test salinity and other water parameters on a regular basis and make appropriate adjustments. I don't have a marine aquarium, but my guess is you determine salinity by measuring specific gravity. I hope one of our salt water enthusiasts will post a better answer.

PS: After thinking about it a little more, it seems like you would add salt only when replacing water during a partial water change. Water evaporates, but salt does not. Significant water evaporation will increase salinity. Salt concentration will also affect other water parameters.

you would only have to add salt when you do water changes. and you would only add the appropriate amount to however many gallons you take out. Using a hydrometer (a device used to read how much salt is dissolved in the water), add salt. Your goal is a specific gravity between 1.020 and 1.023. it should be about 1/4 cup of salt per gallon.
