I have two blood red Parrot fish each 3.5 inches. How to find out which one is male.. Are there any chances of breeding them and raising their fry.
I also have a Yellow Severum fish of 3.5 inch along with the Parrot fish.
Any advice would be much appreciated..
When mature, the males usually have brighter colors, and the females have a wider girth. However, gender is something of a moot point, because parrot cichlids are hybrids of unknown though likely African cichlid origin. Like other hybrid fish, they usually produce infertile eggs. In the few cases where the eggs are fertile, the fry do not always resemble the parents.
There is about 3% chance that the egg will be fertile. The females are good but the males are not able to fertile the eggs. we can use some other species to do so it can be a red devil with parrot or parrot horn...
How to check male red parrot fish and female
Male parrots tend to have longer pointed fins also if you have a look by the analysis fin males have like a v shape almost like o< females have a tube that shapes like a u and will also pertrude further out then males
Lee, older thread don't post please.
Sorry it seemed everyone else didn't have a clue
It's ok to post on older threads if you're adding good info to it.
Why do people get so annoyed when people answer an old thread? We come on here to find information, regardless of when it was posted.
That's what they're for, reading. A lot of people start talking on it as if it was posted yesterday. Like giving advice when the problem is solved. If the comment is beneficial to the thread, then no problem. Or they ask a new question, which would be best asked in a new thread.
Also there are many new questions on here and some urgent. When someone comments on these old ones, the new question keeps going down on the list, while the old one comes to the top again.
Hope that helps a bit?
