I know some of you would have waited longer, but what can I say, patience has never been one of my stronger virtues. I set my tank up yesterday and added water conditioner. The heater ran most of the day to get the temp up to 78f, I live in southern california, so even at this time of year the tap water was only down to 64f. BTW if you haven't read my earlier post the tank I'm using is a 55 show. Anyhow I went down petco today (much better looking tanks than walmart or the LFS BTW), I was planning on getting six or eight tiger barbs to cycle my tank with, but they had very small ones for 99 cents, so I bought ten of them. I was also planning on using plastic plants, but they were quite expensive, and the guy that helped me suggested that live plants might be a better option, so I bought 4 potted plants (not sure of the species). So far the fish seem to be very happy, and the plants look great, I just hope everything works out. When I was last into this hobby (15 years ago) I didn't know anything about cycling and I rarely lost a fish, so I figure this time around I'll do even better. This time around I have a decent job and can afford to buy what ever I want/need. The last time I was about 15, and didn't have any money except for what my parents gave me. Wish me Luck

yup - the barbs are great little fish! I have a 20 gal with all barbs - If you are cycling - keep an eye on them - though they are quite hardy - if they start to look toxic - do a small 10% water change. Some people do that anyway about the 3rd day. Or use Biospira and your tank will cycle within 1- 2 days.

Believe it. I've set up tanks for two novice friends using it and they've been running fine for 6 months+.

P.S. It is a bit pricey and hard to find, though.

I would sure like to know your source of information for that statement. Virtually impossible IMHO.
