i just got a new fish and all it is doing is lying on the bottom of the tank on it's back what could be wrong with it

how you introduce your fish in your aquarium?just buy it from LFS and put it down directly in your tank?or pour the plastic bag for a couple of time?i think your fish is injured from water parameter.the fish you buy from LFS was settled in a particular water parameter and your tank has different water parameter...

Yes, if you didn't acclimate your fish, he could be in shock.
Is your tank cycled?
