I found this site through a search on information about high nitrates. looks like there is a lot of good info and stuff on here so i decided to sign up.

So I'm just saying hello.

I have a 55 gallon tank, which i'm in the process of adding some fish to, as i just got rid of my larger jack dempsy and green terror.

I now have just three smaller fish, about 1" maybe 1 1/2". A Salvini, Green Texas, and Port Cichlid, and i also have a pretty big pleco(like 11"?).

Just thought i would say hi.

welcome toour forum!!! 55 gallon is a big tank.you can keep many fishes there.since you concentrate about cichilds, so you may keep many varities of cichild..i think you know that cichilds like rocks and big gravels,so make the atmosphere which make them more homely environment...and only after that your fish will grow very fast..

Welcome to our forum. As you probably already know, the lakes where African Cichlids originate have widely differing environments. It's important to be sure you are providing the correct environment for the species you selected. A search engine like Google will lead you to detailed information. Since many of the Cichlids are very aggressive, compatibility is also an issue.
