Koi wigglers have now become free swimmers

well today we have free swimmers! There is about 300 or so, don't know how many will actually make it, but they ate their first bbs tonight. Actually we have spawns all over the place, but we are turning our heads too many already...The black combtails spawned again (they ate most of them -- free protein), black lace (the other angels ate them) and koi pair number 2 - just had their first spawn, we are going to leave the eggs with them to see if they were even fertilized, and to see what they do. So it has been an interesting day...

Now that we're on the subject of infertile spawns, maybe you can help solve a problem. A pair of gold angelfish that were hatched out in my aquariums decided to spawn. Their first two attempts were successful, but the last three have produced only infertile eggs. I'm thinking of introducing another male or letting the spawning slate bake in the Phoenix sun. Any more ideas?

When this happened to us, we did 2 things that have seemed to help. Make sure when they are ready to spawn, that the filters are turned down real low including sponge filters. We also replaced the breeding slate with new slates. We also cleaned the old ones scrubbed them real good, and let them bake in the florida sun! If this doesn't work, than either the male is not following the female doing his job, he is uninterested or one of angels is producing either a bad egg or bad or no sperm. Water conditions also affect how the eggs do, PH especially. We did find this time we pulled the eggs as soon as they were done, used half of the water from the tank and half treated water and used hydrogen perioxide.

If you have tried all of the above I would say switch partners and see if your results are any better if not switch females.

We feed ours either frozen blood worms and or frozen shrimp at night -- we recently added the blood worms to our breeders..
