I have some sort of amazon swords, but they are too big for my tastes. How can I get them to propagate so I can get rid of the big ones? I've had them about a year with no new shoots or anything.

To be honest, I think that it will be a bit difficult, even with a carefully-controlled environment to get your swords to reproduce on a continuum such that you will have a constant supply of medium-smallish plants. Although, with proper nutrition and intense-enough lighting, you'll get them to reproduce quite a bit. Have you looked into some of the smaller breeds such as Echinodorus Compacta or Echinodorus 'Tropica' (I think I got the names right). Good luck to you.
