Hey guys,

I have some saltwater live rock from my old tank that has died off and has been sitting in 5 gallon buckets for about 2 years. My question is can these be turned back into live rock? My guess is they can but not sure if I should use them or not. I have about 65 pounds of this rock that's the only reason I'm even thinking about using it because it would cost so much to replace it. Thanks for your help.

I was wondering the same thing.sorta. I have like five pieces of coral pretty small. maybe a pound in total, but I brought it back from Mexico with me like 5 years ago. I don't have a saltwater tank so I haven't been using it. Is it still considered live coral?

Maybe littleman can suggest something here.

I think the answer is yes, you can turn it back into live rock in a saltwater tank. I remember reading something about putting some purple stuff in with the rock and that would help it to become living again. I'm not absolutely positive about the whole process...

But I'm 99% sure it's doable.

Cool thanks

If you or anyone can remember what the purple stuff is called I would appreciate it as I want to use it for sure.

Thank you
