I just noticed this today, across the whole length of the air wand in my tank, it looks like long strands of white hair hanging on the tube extending all the way up to the top of the water line, can anybody tell what this is and do I have to be concerned whth this?

Has anyone ever heard of white algae? Probably not. That leaves fibers from the filter media or a silk plant or some other decoration. Moldy waste products get white, but they seldom look like long white hair. Is the aquarium cycled, and have you checked water chemistry? In some chemical mixes, strings or pieces of materials precipitate out of a solution, but that takes a fairly potent cocktail. Just to make sure the aquarium does not have some awful parasitic worms. turn off the bubbles and see if the strings still wiggle. Please let us know what you find out.

The tank has cycled and the water chemistry is:
Amm----0
Nitrites-0
Nitrates-5
What a dummy I am, I never thought to turn the bubble wand off, I did as you suggested, and the hair like strands disapeared. Apparently portions of the wand are clogged and only letting a very very small stream of tiney bubbles out that looks like strands of white hair. Thanks for the suggestion.
