This is Ernie. He is my first crown-tail betta and I picked him up today. He has greenish blue fins, but it is hard to see in the photo.

This is Sparky and Mrs. Blue. Mr. Blue passed away recently so he is not shown here.

Here is Ernie's tail end. You can see the color in his fins a little better.

Is Ernie a local guy, or did you find him on Aquabid? He looks really special. Did you know that the guy who owns Glendale Pet Shop is into fancy Bettas?

Thanks John, Ernie is local. I picked him up at the petco that just opened up out here. I usually get my bettas from petsmart, but they didn't have any quite like this. I am considering getting another crowntail female or two and breeding them. If I put them in my community tank they get conditioned pretty well because they have access to so much food. Mrs. Blue actually dropped eggs once after I had moved her next to a male. Hopefully, I can reproduce the scenario.

Wow! What a gorgeous fish!!!

My daughter is dying for a betta... and I've thought about breeding...

It's just another thing... just another couple tanks... you know... LOL!

It's awesome to have all that info.

Thanks!

Yes, it is very helpful. I have purchase a female with some similar traits I am hoping to breed. I am trying to get fish that have pure white bodies and colored fins. The female is white with purple fins. She does have some purple scales too, but she would be a nice start. She is nice and young too so she should be ready to go soon.

Thanks for the tip! I happen to have some freeze dried blood worms that I have been feeding my bettas along with the regular pellets. Like you said they love them. How often do you feed your bettas and how much when you are trying to condition them for breeding? How about brine shrimp? Do you feed any of that?

Oh yeah, do you know a good place to get a hurricane lamp type of thing. I have my female by herself in the ten gallon and my male is still in my triple betta tank. I plan to put him in the ten gallon too, but I need to have a nice hurricane lamp for the female to stay safe in. Maybe I could try Goodwill.

i fed them every night and about 5+ worms so they get nice and fat but i fed the babys brine shrimp but you could if you can grow them big enough. i just use a jar and cups and breeding v seperaters (the ones for live bearers) without the v in it and make shoure you have some sort of lid or something over the female they are known to jump (personal experences but for me it was a good thing thats how i got this batch)

A lot of times you can find the top of hurricane lamps at a Hobby store, or even at Wal-Mart in the Candle Section.

I know they have them at Hobby Lobby - Our local Craft Store...

And I know you can buy the whole Hurricane lamp at Wal-Mart for like 5 bucks...

Good Luck!

Awesome, thanks for the tips. I will be sure to stop by wal-mart sometime soon. Bettas are definitely jumpers. I had a male jump out about a month ago. He dried up in the sink and died before I found him. Poor Blueberry.

Thanks, I am glad you like him. The female I bought for him is not doing so well. She seems to be slowly getting better though. I have no idea what went wrong.

where did you get her? most of the time stores keep bettas in tiny little cups where all they can do is swim in cyercles untill they die from deceasse and VERY bad water quilty...so if was from a store like that it could be recovering from death....SAVE THE BETTAS!!!!! i myself buy my bettas from these types of stores (to poor to buy off aquabid) to save them but only if there healthy (and dont have dropsy) enough that i know i can save them

sorry had to get that off my chest
also i have read through that entire wedsite like 10 times but you dont need half the stuff it says... all you need realy is a ten gallon tank some sort of hiding place a cup or something a thermomiter and a heater and an almost air tight lid OH and the bettas of course ::
