my fish is darting and swimming erratically? I have good water conditions. No amonia, no nitraite, .5 nitrate, ph 7.4. I did a 30 % water change earlier today.
Is your fish bumping and/or rubbing against decoratios, tank walls etc?
That is a sighn of external parasites.could you get a picture or a video of the fish in question for closer inspection.
Here is the fish
Also, I am user name: Julia. I just made an account. I am no longer a guest. I will upload more pics on my page. FYI
your fish looks a little shiny, that'll suggest velvet.try shining a flashlight on it a nd look for a gold dusting effect.that'll confirm my suspicions
No, She doesnt have any gold dust or ich. It may have been the flash on my Blackberry. SHe has a very white scale and orange but no dusting. SHe is eating and not having any issues but the darting and rubbing. I just did a water change today and the parameters are great. She does this a couple times a week. I had her in a 10 gallon hospital tank for a week and gave her parasite meds to cure it, but obviously that didnt work. She does eat like a pig.
what type of fish is she?
if you have treated her and there are visible sighns of parasites then she just be agitated or something.how big is your tank?are there other goldfish in there with her
Can i ask a question if i may? I keep two Sarasa Comets and can spot almost instantly if one is behaving differently.
Is there any other minor symptoms or differences in the fishes behaviour?
How is the breathing 'gill wise' for this fish? Is it faster than normal.. or to what you can recall as being 'the normal'?
Also is the fish generally quite lively?
30 gallons with two 30 gallon filters (one is a bio wheel). Only one other small little oranda. I took out all decor so she wouldn't scratch, etc. It usually has white gravel (1/4") and a few decorations. The tank was set up and cycled a year ago. I just soaked some omega food in some Melafix and she ate those. Hopefully that will help. She is about 4 inches long. I just checked my parameters again and they are good. Only thing is Nitrate is .05...which isn't bad.
What's the filtering rate of the bio-wheel filter?
The biowheel is for a 40 gallon tank and my tank is 20 gallons. I also have an additional filter on there for a 30 tank. (External filters)
For goldies a filtering rate 10 times the volume of the tank is advisable as they create a lots of wastes
You mean the canister one by external filter ?
May just be coming out with huge bursts of energy
My fish do that every now and again like on Tuesday my fish Bev went bolistic and charged in to My other Shubunkin Ian and ian splashed water all over the lid
