Ok, so I FINALLY got in some Bristlenose that are breeders.

In the mail yesterday I received 1 male and 3 female Calico Standard Fin Bristlenose Plecos with the longfin gene...

2 male and 4 female Brown Standard Fin Bristlenose Plecos...

and 4 little bitty Calico fry!

So now I just need some Regular Brown Longfin... Or Albinos with the longfin gene... Well... I need to see what happens with these.

So the Calicos are in my 10 Gallon Irian jaya Rainbow fry tank with a half a coconut shell and a small terra cotta flower pot.

The Browns are in my 20 Gallon Regular Millenium Rainbow fry tank with 2 coconut shell halves and a small terra cotta flower pot.

I did 50% water changes yesterday, water temp was 78 and the new water was 70. I'm feeding cucumber, and algae wafers.

I ordered my coconuts from a bird toy distributor online, then I used my radial arm saw to cut them in half. Used a jig saw to cut the entrance hole. Used a belt sander to remove all the coconut hair, and to sand the bottom smooth. Then I used some sandpaper and the old fashioned hand method to smooth the opening.

They look really happy!

I'll keep you posted on their progress!

I hope the new bristlenose adventure works out for you. Since you have a wood working shop, do you make your own aquarium stands? Some of them in aquarium shops look nice, but they're mostly made of press board that turns to mush when it gets wet. Even though I'm not much of a craftsman, my home made aquarium stands are strong. Besides, it's fun to work with power tools if you're careful.

We're actually just building the addition...

I use a lot of the tools in making signs.

But yes, I will be building my own stand when I start the fish room. Since they're all over the house right now, in every available outlet, I just use the iron type. But I'm making shelves that are going to be 3 tanks - 4 tanks high when we get the addition finished.

I wish I lived near you. It is difficult to find bn plecos around here. Especially one that are affordable. The last one was thirty dollars. The one I have I paid twelve dollars for and he was just a tiny little guy. Good luck in your experiences with them.

Holy crap Meg... you serious?

Once I get some babies, I'd be glad to send you some. WAAYYY cheaper than that. Or we could trade... Do you have any Koi angels by chance? I'm looking for more coverage... Mine stinks...

I'm hoping to have BN coming out my ears soon... LOL! The calicos are absolutely gorgeous! I've got the temp down for them... they like 78 F. With 50% water changes of 70 F.

So... I'm off to do a water change...

And... Gotta get ready for my Fantasy Football Draft tomorrow!! WOOT!!! FOOTBALL SEASON!!!

LOL, football in any form has never been my forte. Thanks for the offer. I may take you up on it. I no longer have any koi angelfish. The closest I can get are smokey blushers(kinda look like blue blushers with smoky pattern). I don't think that is what you are looking for though. I had a koi male, but I gave him away because he was too aggressive. He didn't have a clue when it came to spawning either. I gave him two years and he still never figured out that the female was supposed to be in on the process.

LOL! Some guys just never get it...

I am short a male right now... I'm trying to get a male for my female gold superveil. I have 4 large juvies in there with her... hoping that she'll take up with one of them...

Do you have other fish that you fool with?

I have bettas(two males and one female). I don't breed them though. I just like to look at them. I also have clown loaches, corie catfish(don't breed those either), and otocinclus catfish. I have tried guppies, but it seems the one fish that is supposed to be the toughest is the one I find easiest to kill. Wierd. I have an interest in starting a nice planted tank with nothing but different types of small fast moving fish such as tetras or neons. I love head and tail light tetras. Right now I am still in love with angelfish so it will be a while until I move on.

I really want angelfish too, but my tank is reasonably small and got enough fish in for now, so it wouldnt be fair on an angelfish. I like siamise fighters too, but ive heard they get sick alot and fight and have to be kept separate. . . the list goes on LOL!!! Them bn were VERY expensive!!! I got a (supposedly) breeding pair for 15 quid!!! they havent bred though, thats probably why they were cheap!!! and at my local fish shop, for 1 bristlenose about 2/3 inches is 2.50!! i have to go and do water changes now as ive just tested and ive got orange nitrate!!!! Good luck with them bristlenoses!!!
