Hi all,

I am Pragya, I have setup my 20 galon fish aquarium 3 days back. It has one in-built filter, I have also setup under grave flter with air pump.

I introduced 10 fishes, 2 black mollies, 2 yellow mollies, 4 tiger barb, 2 kid tetra. In 2 days time my all tiger barb died .

I know my mistake now, i should have cycled the tank before introducing the fishes.I donot know what to do now. To top up the situation, my yellow molly has given birth to 6 frys. I have sepated them in a fish bowl.
Please suggest me the capacity of the fish bowl to keep 6 fries.

I am giving them mashed fish food pallets. Is there anything i can do to make healthy?

Moerover, when can i introduce them in the main tank?

I am very new to fish and aquarium. My pet shop owner didnt guide me on any of this, He is more worried abiut the look of the aquarium then the lives of my fishes.

I am very stressed and worried about my fishes. I didnt bring home to kill them. Please, please, and please advice.

Will be grateful

u must cycled the water of the new aquarium bcoz new set up must contain high percentage of gases that don't healthy for those fishes.u must change it 100 5 of the old water and gie the new fresh water.in new set up u may find that there are many bubbles there on the wall of the aquarium, this is due to the gases.when all these bubbles gone then only u can introduce fishes in ur tank...
and pls don't put those fry in ur main tank,if u does then the other fishes can eat those fry!!!

Please don't change 100% of the water.

I wouldn't recommend that... It would be very stressful on your fish that are already stressed from the move fromt the pet store to your tank, and now trying to make it through the cycle.

You might try to find some Hornwort or Another floating plant to help get rid of some of the ammonia.

Do water changes... 25% or so, every day if possible. Don't forget to add some water conditioner for the water changes... I use Chlor Out, some use Stress Coat... Or Prime.

Good Luck with your tank!

Keep us posted!

Welcome to our forum. As Angela said, the partial water changes should help keep the ammonia fairly low, but it should be at zero. If the aquarium shop can give you a cup of gravel from an established aquarium, that should help speed the cycle. Beneficial bacteria live in the gravel, plants and decorations. The idea of the cycling process is to establish viable colonies of beneficial bacteria that digest ammonia and nitrites. A couple months ago, I set up two new tanks and dumped in a bunch of hornwort; the ammonia level never got high enough to measure.

If you do go back to the aquarium shop, try to avoid buying a bunch of medications. Partial water changes will do much more good. As for the fry in the fish bowl, they should be able to eat crushed up flake food and baby brine shrimp. Be very careful to not over feed, because the water will go bad fast. The fish bowl probably needs a small air bubbler or a sponge type filter plus some hornwort. By the time the fry are too big to be eaten they can be moved to the other tank, provided it is healthy. If you get time, use a search engine like Google to find out about the fish you have selected. They are not all compatible.

Dear all,

Thank you very much for all the replies.

I have changed 20%of the water, and 2mrw I will get some gravel and plant to help the cycle.

I have added the air pump in my fries bowl. I am feeding them with mashed fish food. I will look out for some shrimp to make my babies healthy .

Once again, thanks all.. I will keep you posted.

Pragya

I couldn't get the aquarium picture to show up. You can attach a picture to a posting by using one of the boxes right above the SUBMIT button. Frozen brine shrimp is available at most aquarium shops. For the fry, you need baby brine shrimp. The adults can eat regular brine shrimp. Be sure to thaw it out before you feed it.

I'm glad we could help. Please keep us updated.
