Hi, most aquariums are only held together with silicon. They have frames around them but it is mostly for looks. Many larger tanks have a plastic brace down the center. I have an eighty gallon that did not so I made one for it. The stand is important especially for large tanks to ensure even support at the bottom of the tank. Large tanks should not be put on furniture not made for them. The hood does nothing for support, but it does help keep water from evaporating too quickly. Hope this helps. Can you post a photo of your new tank?
