So for my twenty gallon I am going to get something different instead of the Dwarf puffers I was hoping for. The fish I am going to stock it now is with German Blue Rams. I know the risks of premature death associated with these fish but I want to take a plunge with these guys. But before I buy the fish, I want to lower the ph of my tank to suit the needs of the rams. I know I need to remove the carbon from the filter but don't know how. I have a Marineland Penguin 200 filter and it comes with those cartridges that already have carbon in them. I do not want to remove the filter media that does the mechanical filtration but want peat moss to lower the ph. Anybody have any suggestions with what to do with the carbon while still retaining filtration of the water?

here i did alittle searching and found this one blog that has a guy with the same filter and the care he does with it. He basically just took a blade and cut into the hard plastic part to take out the carbon. Im sure you could do the same if you looked at the pictures he took.
