so my platy is sick again. he looks really weird, like his body is shaped weird and when he swims he looks like a penguin walking, all waddling. and he is really skinny. i isolated him in the isolation net, and gave him lost of food, and he ate it all but he did look the tiniest bit fatter. he cant swim well, he kinda just floats along the bottom, and occasionally tries to swim to the surface but almost never makes it. ive already saved him twice.

the only things i can this are wrong is that either he is old, or he needs a mate? my female dwarf platy jumped out of the tank and died months ago.

any ideas?

Platties have a fairly short lifespan. Still, you should check water parameters to make sure the aquarium is OK.

i just got it checked at walmart last monday, the only thing that was wrong was the nitrate was to low. everything else was perfect and i have been doing daily water changes and i'm only feeding them two pinches of food a day, so no water pollution. all of the other fish are fine and his scales look like they are loosing color, he LOOKS old so bet he is just really old.

You're probably right.

It's better to check your own water, and you can buy some of those test strips for less than ten dollars. If you use one once a month, it will last for a long time. The same is true of the ammonia test kits that use one or two types of chemical reagent. If you use an ammonia removal agent, some test kits will still give a positive indication.

my platy died last night.

the cheapest of ANY type of water text was thirteen dollars. Plus i don't even have one dollar, and no time for a job.

I'm 99.9% for sure the water is absolutely fine.

yesterday, my platy was really sick, he was bent into a c shape and was just laying on the bottom, and my golden mystery snail found him and was trying to eat him alive! i scooped the snail up and put him on the other side of the tank, but he just hurried back to the fish! so i put the fish right next to this little cave thing and he kinda flipped upside down untill he was in there. but he was dead this morning anyways.

is this normal? and do i have to worry about my snail(gary :]) eating my baby guppies?

thanks.

Sorry you couldn't save the Platy. It probably was old age, and if you lived near Phoenix, I'd give you enough to start over. Free is good, so don't worry about the test kit; when you get rich, check out the on line aquarium supply houses. They're cheap, which is almost as good as free.

Don't worry about the snail. What he did is perfectly normal. It's also normal for nature to be ugly sometimes.
