Air pumps tend to make noise when they have too much or too little back pressure. Sometimes, putting them on a mouse pad will also eliminate the noise, and sometimes just moving them a quarter inch or so will cut down on the noise. I think it could have something to do with harmonic constants, that or gremlins.
