The lfs keeps a small glass of aquarium salt in each of its freshwater tanks. They say it is useful and won't harm any of the fish, which include all of the freshwater varieties. Has anyone had experience with this technique and is the addition of aquarium salt beneficial to all of the freshwater species? David.

i notice that walmart does that too, i dont know why tho becuase the petshop in wich i work we just keep 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons in our tanks and i know the livebearers do better with it in the water and so do the painted glass fish too well they would do better in a brackish tank seein as how they are technically brackish fish.

you can read around and make your own opinions but salt has been said to cure things, and is known to help the fish cure themselves, there are some fish that this is bad for, and some it is really good for another post points to brackish fish they will all be happy with a little salt, neon and cardinal tetras will do worse with salt, to name a few, also plants generally dont take to salt in the water again generally as there are exceptions and proper levels that will allow plants to thrive.
