Although salt can be beneficial to some hard water species like guppies, mollies and rainbow fish, it is bad and even toxic to others like dwarf cichlids, gouramis and catfish.

It is also not good for plants either.

Keeping high quality water by doing water changes is probably a better way to keep your fish healthy.

I don't feel the need to use it myself.

Salt is suggested by many as a cure all for desease.

Becarefull what you do with it!

See the october issue of Aquarium Fish Magazine for more about salt.

advertising claims aside, instant ocean is considered as good as any salt on the market and is one of the less expensive. stay away from coralife - fared poorly in published comparisons to other salts.

For fish-only the brand of salt probably doesn't matter all that much.

Cheers,
