I just finished reading a number of websites regarding sand (play sand) and Mbunma cichilds. Of course i didnt read it until I set up my 75 gallon with 35 pounds of white gravel and 20 pounds of black gravel now mixed. I like how it looks but see that play sand is supose to be a better choice. What are your thoughts and can I actually mix the 2 of them together. Also what about the weight of all this and rocks.
Please help me out???
Thanks!!

the cichilds always like to live and hide with rocks, big rocks are the best for them...you may mix gravel or sand but in my opinion the best is not to give and for cichilds tank..

Welcome to our forum. To be on the safe side, you should use only sand and gravel that is sold specifically for aquarium use. Some of the other types have additives which could be harmful to fish.

If there is a bit of confusion about the requirements of Cichlids, it's because there are so many varieties. South American Cichlids like angelfish are native to tropical streams, and many of the African Cichilds are from lakes in different parts of the continent. Before you set up a Cichlid aquarium, a little research is in order. The requirements for water hardness, substrate materials, decorations and pH are very different for the different Cichlid species. Google is a good place to find the specific requirements of each species.
