Hi,
We have been trying to let the koi raise their own, but they eat them as soon as they are wigglers, this time we are going to pull them. We usually use Methelan Blue and this time we want to try Hydrogen peroxide, however I don't remember the percentages. We have a five gallon tank how much do we use, and when do you start doing water changes to get rid of it.
Thanks

Karen and Jimmy

Hi Karen.. I just sent you off an e-mail...but i also see I forgot to anser one of your other questions. You would start the water changes day they become wrigglers..day 2.
And like I said in the e-mail...I would just use a capful of Hydrogen peroxide for a 5 gal.
So did you get a nice batch? Will be awesome to see some Koi babies...COOL!
Good luck!!

Thanks for the email as well, I used about 2 Tablespoons. Our jar has a very little cap... There is about 300 in this spawn. Hopefully they won't turn white and will hatch, hope the Mr... was paying attention. We had turned the filter way down as well. Will let you know in a couple of days if they become wigglers. We got about 20 or so from one spawn, all of the eggs had turned white. This little batch is growing pretty fast, but I think we overfed them last week because we lost a couple all of a sudden.
Thaks again -- can always count on forum members to help out...

So far so good -- we only have about 10 white eggs. Maybe this batch will be better!

Just an update we have wigglers tonight... actually it is early -- we thought around noon tomorrow, about half have hatched and already fell to the floor of the tanks. So this maybe a lucky batch, still have at least 300.

Will keep you updated.

Just an update, the babies are doing good, not growing too fast but are little pigs when it comes to eating. We lost the parents, that was sad, won't by anymore fish from auctions....We will keep a couple of the babies so that we can develop an pair of breeders with some others that we bought as pea sized... But so far so good with these babies there is about 100 or so.

Thanks for the update. It's nice to hear from you again. What happened to the parents?

Grats on the Babies!!!

YAY!

It's so sad that you lost the parents though...

Especially since they were trying to parent raise...

Anchor worm....except it didn't show their ugly heads for a few weeks, and we had never ever seen this before, so our reaction time wasn't fast enough, the worms died with the treatment, but so did the fish... We had two pair of Koi's we separated them for 4 weeks and all went well we put them in a 40 divided breeder tank soon after that the one pair had these things hanging on it, the second pair never did, however they also died... so we are not sure who was the carrier. But these things don't come out they stay in the gills and then hatch and then attach and grow. Gruesome sight ... The one set of Koi's were beautiful, the second set was always a bit small and not good eaters so I have a feeling they were the carriers. We are just hoping that it didn't get carried to any of our other tanks through transfer of commonly used items. We always are careful... but we keep watching. We haven't sold any fish again until we are sure ours are all OK... so there is a couple of hundred dollars down the drink...

Those things must be really awful. Even after you took all the precautions, they still got in. Have you contacted the place or places where you bought the fish? It seems like a legitimate vendor would want to know about any potential infestation. Of course it may be the worms hitched a ride on some plants or food. Please keep us posted, and good luck with the fry.
