I bought several vials of BS Eggs about 6 months ago. I occassionally mix a small batch.

The last 3 batches have had little/no yield. I'm using the same recipe for the water (thanks Marc).

Is there a shelf life for BS Eggs? Is there a way to store them? TIA

I buy them by the pound, and keep them in the fridge. They will last more than a year.

What is killing them is the damp air... They are normally store in air tight containers (can, foil bag etc). The stuff you buy second hand from somebody who opened 1lb can and divided eggs into smaller portions for retail resale is for immediate use... It will not last long time, unfortunatelly. Never buy more than you need 'now'.

I buy mine from Brine Shrimp Direct, and near the end of a year, I can tell they aren't hatching as well. I buy 1/2lb of 90% hatch rate (Premium).

As I hatch 1 tsp every day, I'm going to need a new bag every 6 months I bet. Maybe even more often.

I don't store it in the fridge though, I keep it in the fish room near the hatcheries but away from lights or heat. Always seal the bag well once it has been used.

hmm, I thought I replied here already/... I buy from BSD also, but I buy the 1 pound can, and keep it in the fridge.. I have never noticed falling hatch rates. I always get 90%+.

I went to the BSD web site. They've got lots of good information. One note stated that older eggs might take a little longer to hatch.

I'm also noticing that the bulb I was using was a 40watt & I had been using a 75W. I'm switching back and trying again. I've also stored the remainder of the eggs in the fridge.

The eggs were purchased at a web site in a pre-packaged vial, by SF Bay (not in bulk). Next order I'll try BSD.

Thanks for all the responses.
